The Longest Five Seconds of My Life
With all the anticipation of my first date in months, my stomach was running wild with freight
there were all kinds of ideas of what this guy Tyree' would expect from me at the end of the night.
But I couldn't possibly dwell on or think about any of that nonsense now; I just didn't have the time
My clothes had to be ironed, my hair had to be curled, and I had to make sure my makeup looked fine.
As 8 o'clock quickly approached, my body became so nervous; I didn't even hear the ringing door bell
Three rings and two knocks later, I emerged and was completely mesmerized by his charming spell.
My entire family stood tall to greet him with a friendly gesture, but inside I was still quite shy
wondering how many times tonight, he would dodge the truth and feed me a thousand lies.
As we were ready to leave the comforts of my home and proceed to the car, he kindly took my hand
then began a conversation with asking me what qualities and qualifications do I find attractive in a man.
That question was sprung out so suddenly, it completely caught me off guard, as I was left with no answer
While the smell of the cologne he wore, sent chills through my body like the deadly disease of cancer.
I pretty much assumed that he had his life together and knew exactly what he wanted, his exact intentions
Tyree' made sure he said everything I wanted to hear, he asked everything I somehow forgot to mention.
Like royalty; I was wined, I was dined, and he really knew how to treat me like a true beauty queen
and actually listen to the things I had to say, and then humored me with the funny things he'd seen.
With the time quickly approaching 11 o’clock, fatigue had come as I was ready for the night to end
Being very pleased with the evenings' activities, I declared to make him a future boyfriend.
But there was some personal business he said he had to take care of before driving me home
ten minutes later, he pulled up to a small apartment complex, got out, and left me waiting all alone.
I saw him running down the stairs through the rear view mirror, when a few minutes had past
He whispered something that sounded like "I have to wait a little while longer", he said it so fast.
As I stepped out of the car, his arm tightly gripped my waist, as he led our way up to the apartment
No one seemed to be around when we reached the top, so I mysteriously asked where everyone went
When my question was returned with no answer, I asked again, “What are we waiting here for?"
With an intense look in his eyes, he replied with a strict, "Just hold on and don't ask me that anymore".
Now; I didn't know Tyree' that well, so I wondered what actually possessed me to even come up there
seeing the shock on my face; he apologize with a kiss then softly stroked the auburn strands of my hair.
We had begun to engage in moderate conversation when his hand journeyed across to my inner thigh
sounding nice but aggressive, I asked him what he was doing and he responded 'ending the night right.'
I picked up the glass I brought up with me, told him I was ready to go, and quietly walked to the door
it must've upset him, because he followed closely behind and threw me down on the hard, wooden floor.
Now completely in shock; a scream triggered in the back of my throat hoping someone would hear me.
there is nothing that I can do; I am drifting in and out of consciousness from the severity of my nose bleed.
With disbelief, he slashed my face with a box cutter, ripped my clothes, and tore my pelvic muscle in half
Something inside of him conjured up the nerve to flash the same smile that once made me laugh.
The same strong hands that I admired earlier are now wrapped tightly around my neck, killing me slowly
How could this be? Is this the same man that cried in my arms when telling me his families’ sad stories?
How ironic... there was no time to wonder, this is a life or death situation, and inside I vowed to get away
There are five seconds left 'til I die, there must be something I could possibly do, something I could say.
Then all of a sudden, my body began moving with his every accord, like I was enjoying the rough sex
In my mind, the entire time, I was trying to think of a plan before he decided to up and kill me next.
As Tyree' moved me around like a petite rag doll, somehow out the corner of my eye, I spotted a knife
And grabbed hold of it with everything I had, hoping and praying that at this moment I would end his life.
In almost an instant, I slashed him across the neck and struck a nerve as he slowly rolled off my corpse
All my terror and pain had become frustration and revenge, when he looked up and smiled with no remorse.
By God’s grace, I rose to my feet and ran outside wearing only the color of red, dripping from my flesh
A middle aged cab driver found me passed out in the street and drove me to the hospital to endure several tests.
Tyree' was caught two weeks later, convicted of one count of rape and attempted murder in the first degree
But that will never erase the scars from my face or take back the longest five seconds ever, from my memory.
